Portsmouth Children's Fund Final Celebration Event

Portsmouth Children's Fund will finish on March 31st 2008 and in order to acknowledge the achievements and success of the programme a celebration event took place at the Spinnaker Tower on December the 6th.

Over 100 people attended the evening including current Service Providers who all displayed presentation boards which demonstrated their achievements over the last seven years. Partner agencies, and representatives from the voluntary and community sector were also present. David Williams, Chief Executive of Portsmouth City Council and Lynda Fisher, Strategic Director for Children, Families and Learning spoke at the event.

David Williams

David highlighted the learning that can be taken forward for future projects and how the good practice on early intervention should be used as a foundation for future funding. He raised a toast to all of the projects over the years that have supported families through the funding.

Lynda Fisher

Lynda focused on the impact of the projects funded and how important it is not to get caught up in the statistics but to acknowledge the changes that have taken place for individual children and families. Lynda thanked the audience for attending and the Portsmouth Children's Fund team for such a positive ending to the programme.

Anne Hutchins

Anne, Portsmouth Children's Fund Manager launched 'A Legacy of Learning' the final report that encompasses the success and learning of Portsmouth Children's Fund team and Service Providers. Anne also presented the 'Mini Evaluators Toolkit', which has been produced by Portsmouth Children's Fund and YMCA Portsmouth. The aim of the Toolkit is to facilitate the participation of children in the evaluation of services that they use. A copy of the final report and Mini Evaluators Toolkit are available from the Portsmouth Children's Fund office.

The Portsmouth Children's Fund team would like to send a big thank you to all of the Service Providers who were present and showcased their project on the night. We feel that the funded projects have made a difference to the lives of children, young people and their families with regards to their attendance and behaviour at school, providing activities to help improve children's self-esteem and confidence and keep them away from the Youth Justice System.
