What’s the Children’s Fund all about?
The Children’s Fund, Heart of Portsmouth (HoP), fund and support services for children aged 5-13 who live in Buckland, Landport, Portsea and Somerstown. Children, young people and their families are involved as much as possible within all our projects to ensure that they are successful and remain relevant. Details of the projects currently funded by Portsmouth Children’s Fund are listed below.
Back to School Support (BTSS)
(Primary Behaviour Support Service)
The project works with pupils on fixed term exclusions for a 10 week period in both their home and school settings. The aim is to develop positive home/school relationships thereby supporting pupils within their reintegration programme and helping to prevent further exclusions.

Billingual Nurture Support (EMAS)
Support is provided to refugee and asylum seeker children and families who are unable to fully access learning opportunities. A specific worker is designated to work with these families to enable them to integrate within the local community and educational systems.
Childrens Provision Portsea
(Play Service)
This project provides a wide range of recreational activities including art workshops, IT sessions and a full sports programme. Opportunities are also provided to explore the local community and natural environment.
Contact Support Worker
(EC Roberts Centre)
A child-centred environment is provided in order to facilitate ongoing contact with a non-resident parent or family member. The post of Contact Support Worker has been created in order to provide a link between the courts and the non-resident parent and to provide counselling within the home if required.
Further Information Family Champions
(PYOP)
The project provides a variety of outreach support packages for families and carers with children aged 0-13. This is a joint initiative with Sure Start ABC and On-Track.

Family Education Support Project (FESP)
(Primary Behaviour Support Service)
1-1 support is provided to children who are at risk of educational and social exclusion. A Key Worker co-ordinates and monitors a range of tailored support from existing services with the city.
F.E.S.P. Drop-In's for families.
For any parents of school age children to come along and enjoy a coffee, meet other mums/dads/carers, have some 1-1 time or ask any questions about child care etc.

HOPE Project - Portsea and Somerstown
(Helping other People Excel - The Kings Church)
A range of programmes are provided including: a significant contribution to the PSHE curriculum; informal family support and out of school activities. The project aims to promote life skills development and works alongside schools and other services to enhance the children’s self esteem and their respect for others.

Junior Youth Inclusion Project (YIP)
(PYOP)
Mentoring support to young people and parenting support to parents/carers. This project works with 8 - 13 year olds and their families in Portsea.
Parent Power
(Primary Behaviour Support Service)
This is a free parenting course for those with children aged 4 - 11 years old. Portsmouth Children's Fund support the training of facilitators to implement Parent Power courses.
A training course is being held on 25th April, 2nd May and 9th May at Boscas Club Brunel Annex, Wymering Road from 6:30-9:00 p.m. This course is specifically for nursery staff working in Early Years settings. For further details and application form contact:-

Portsmouth Domestic Violence Children’s Project (Southern Focus Trust)
A specialist post has been created to address the specific needs of children affected by domestic violence. A range of approaches are used including 1-1 and small group work in order to help the children to come to terms with their experiences.

Preventing Youth Offending Project (PYOP)
A range of services are offered on both an individual and group basis which aim to challenge anti-social attitudes and behaviour. Support is also provided to parents and siblings of young offenders.

Primary Mental Health Project (PMHW)
Work is undertaken in Heart of Portsmouth Primary schools. The aim of the project is to provide early intervention for pupils experiencing emotional difficulties.

Volunteer Reading Help
Volunteers meet weekly with children in school setting on a one-to-one basis. Volunteers read and play games with children to increase self-confidence, self esteem and aid basic literacy.

Provides a range of different programmes all of which aim to ensure that children have a respected voice within the development of local services and projects.
